"We could do it, you know...leave the district. run off. live in the woods. you and i, we could make it."
Suzanne Collins, an American author and television writer, was born in Hartford, Connecticut on August 10, 1962. Collins was born into a military family that moved around a lot during her childhood and teenage years; however, her family finally settled in Alabama where she attended a high school that was completely dedicated to the fine arts--one of her passions. She went onto study at Indiana University, where she double majored in Drama and Telecommunications and landed her early role as a television writer for multiple shows including Nickelodeon's Clarissa Explains It All and The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo. Additionally, she worked extensively on episodes for the beloved children's shows Little Bear and Clifford’s Puppy Days.
In the transition from television to book writing, Collins began by writing children’s novels. Inspired by the classic Alice in Wonderland, Collins was inspired to consider a more urban interpretation; thus, Gregor the Overlander was born. In the wake of her success with children's literature, Collins decided to pursue a slightly older audience as she moved into Young Adult Literature with her international bestselling trilogy, The Hunger Games.
Currently, Collins lives in Connecticut with her husband and adopted kittens.
